The review of the projects was carried out by both parties in parallel independently. The teams that will get funding obtained positive assessments from experts of both parties.

The RSF grant will be from 4 to 6 million Russian rubles annually for the period of 2020–2022.

“We are pleased with the first results of our cooperation with partners from Belgium. 5 out of 11 projects we selected for funding represent collaboration with a 600-years-old University of Leuven (KUL), which was recently ranked by Reuters 7th among top 100 most innovative universities in the world. The Russian participants in the joint projects are as much reputable organizations with strong research capacity and wide geographical distribution,” said Sergey Konovalov, RSF international relations spokesperson while commenting the results of the competition. “The projects we will fund are aimed at solving very interesting research problems and often combine the competencies of the groups of scientists in Russia and Belgium, specializing in different research fields, into multidisciplinary teams. Such teams, for example, will study methods to combat ischemic disease, Alzheimer's disease, autoimmune diseases, and to develop an effective vaccine against HIV infection. In addition, Russian-Belgian teams will solve diverse problems in ecology, biodiversity, nanocrystals studies, improvement of lithium-ion batteries, etc.”

The next RSF-FWO call for proposals is expected to be released in 2022 for projects with funding in FY 2023-2025.

More detailed information about this call and the list of winners are available in the "Calls for proposals" menu section.
