RSF General Director Alexander Khlunov welcomed the delegation from the Japanese Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED) chaired by the Executive Director, Dr. Yutaka Hishiyama.
This is a return visit of the Japanese partners arriving in Moscow by the invitation from the RSF. Besides Russian Science Foundation headquarters, they visited the Sechenov University, Blokhin Cancer Research Center, Research Center of Neurology and the Russian Ministry of Health.
In December 2016 in the course of the official visit of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin the RSF delegation visited Tokyo. The memorandum of cooperation was signed with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan(MAFF), which led to a joint call for the Russian-Japanese research projects in agriculture.
"We highly appreciate the collaborative research initiated by Russian and Japanese scientists. This year, we have already supported 5 bilateral research projects in agricultural sciences with matching co-funding from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan. There is a number of RSF-funded projects in various regions of Russia with highly qualified project leaders from Japan", Alexander Khlunov said.
"Establishing effective and mutually beneficial cooperation with the RSF is an important task for AMED, this is the very reason why we came to Russia. Three research organizations we visited here in Moscow, their excellent research infrastructure and talented Russian workforce impressed us greatly. We would like to propose to develop specific thematics for the future joint projects in the course of a research workshop or seminar," Dr. Hishiyama concluded.
The parties agreed to organize such a specialized joint event for researchers from both countries in 2018. The parameters of the joint co-funding program may be indicated afterwards.
